Hiking at the “Molinetto della Croda”

The "Molinetto della Croda" mill

We propose you a loop itinerary whose starting point is the historic "Molinetto della Croda", in Refrontolo, an historic mill that represent a typical example of rural architecture dating back to the 17th century, operated thanks to the water jump of the Lierza stream. It was a mill for grinding grains, which today has become one of the major emblems of the area, the subject of numerous pictorial representations, a film, countless photographs and drone shots, immersed in a fairy-tale setting. The hike will allow you to enjoy numerous viewpoints over the Prosecco hills and will also allow to reach the Marsini Bivouac.

The itinerary

After having parked the car in the large free parking lot at the Molinetto della Croda, we will set out on Via Francesco Fabbri, facing a short uphill stretch in which we should pay attention to cars. From here we will continue, skirting the Lierza stream, until we intercept on the right, near Via Molinetto, the signs for Bivacco Marsini (Bivouac Marsini).

We will walk along a short stretch of road and then take the Mondaresca path, which climbs in the middle of the woods with a slight incline, until we reach our destination: the Marsini Bivouac. From here we enjoy the splendid panorama that sweeps from the Prosecco hills to Mount Cesen and relaxed ourselves in the benches, shaded by the large trees.

After that we continue along the “Maurizio and Lucio” trail, passing by an abandoned house with an old barn attached, until we arrive at Mondaresca, an old uninhabited farmhouse converted into a social farm for the Onlus community of Conegliano. From here there will be a wonderful panorama from which to admire the Conegliano hills.

We begin the descent, looking at the signs for the Maurizio and Lucio trail and plunge through the vineyards, towards Pecolon and Croda dei Mus, until we find a house surrounded by olive trees and a magnificent view of the hills. From here we take the dirt road that descends downward to soon reach the main road, from which we reconnect with the car.
